WestLB loses legal fight over $165m Enron loan

WestLB has lost out to JP Morgan in a UK High Court ruling over who is liable for a $165m (€137m) loan made to Enron, the failed US energy company.

WestLB and a syndicate of 14 other banks will have to honour a $165m letter of credit that the German bank signed to guarantee a loan arranged by JP Morgan just two months before Enron collapsed in late 2001.
