Well-heeled and well-educated still get the top jobs

The majority of top jobs in law, media and the City are dominated by people who went to private school and come from a wealthy background, which makes up only 7% of the population, according to a new report published by an independent Government panel.

The report, published by the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions, is the latest embarrassment for prime minister Gordon Brown, given the importance the Labour party attaches to social inclusion.
