The US Securities and Exchange Commission is set to investigate the recent spike in special purpose acquisition companies listing on Wall Street, writing to underwriters for more information on the trend.

The regulator has sent letters to US banks asking for information on their dealings with Spacs, four people familiar with the matter told Reuters.
