Lazard Asset Management, one of last year's top performing hedge fund houses, has been dealt a massive blow with the departure of William von Mueffling, its star hedge fund manager, who managed over $3bn (€2.8bn).

Von Mueffling is understood to have resigned from Lazard as a result of a disagreement over his compensation package, according to analysts.
