Vanguard, JPMorgan and BNP Paribas were some of the biggest exchange traded fund winners in Europe last year, ending 2022 among a small handful of asset managers that increased their year-on-year haul of new money during a period where flows in Europe dropped to levels not seen since 2018.

Data from ETFGI show the $89bn of new money garnered by Europe's ETF sector in 2022 was down 54% on the previous year and the first time in four years that firms in the region have not collectively gathered more than $100bn.
