Vanessa James has quit as Legal & General UK equity chief by mutual consent following a difficult year for the active funds she used to run.

James faced a problem as a result of seriously underperforming in the first quarter and failing to recover in the fourth, as a result of her sizeable weightings in certain technology stocks.
