US financial sector holds allure for buyout firms

Private equity firms are hoping the green shoots that appear to be emerging in the financial sector herald a warm spring for their investments in the sector.

Peter Gordon, co-chairman of the finance committee and a senior member of mergers and acquisitions group at law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, said: "The trend of private equity investment in financial institutions will continue, as private equity investors have identified the sector as an attractive area in which to deploy capital."
