US derivatives regulator warns of risks as exchanges ready bitcoin futures

The chairman of the US's derivatives regulator has warned of the potential pitfalls of trading bitcoin, after two of the world's largest exchanges said they will offer futures contracts on the digital currency later this month.

CME Group plans to offer futures on bitcoin from December 18, the exchange said in a statement. Cboe said it will reveal its own launch date "shortly".
