UK fiscal plan pushed back to 17 November as government readies ‘extremely important’ statement

Sunak faces first test with questions in parliament on 26 October after delaying key statement

The UK government pushed back the date for revealing its much-anticipated statement on how it intends to reduce its fiscal deficit from 31 October to 17 November.

New chancellor Jeremy Hunt said 26 October he was postponing the announcement, which he upgraded to a full budgetary Autumn Statement, so that it was “based on the most accurate possible economic forecasts and forecasts of public finances”.
