UK defined benefit schemes cut contributions in half

UK employers who have closed generous final salary schemes in favour of alternative defined contribution schemes have halved their contribution levels in the process, according to research by Mercer Human Resource Consulting.

The study of 450 employer-sponsored schemes found that 6% of members' salaries are contributed to defined contribution plans, compared with 12% with final salary schemes.
