SunGard, the US IT group, has set up a new business arm to develop its data management operations following its purchase of Fame Information Services in January.

SunGard's enterprise data management operating unit will provide data management to financial services companies and energy institutions. Dale Richards, the former chief executive of Fame, has been appointed to head the operation.
