Speaker blasts government for ‘contempt’ over use of coronavirus powers

The speaker of the House of Commons blasted prime minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative government for treating Parliament with “contempt” over the introduction of emergency coronavirus rules.

In a statement to the house, Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP said: "The way in which the government has exercised its powers to make secondary legislation during this crisis has been totally unsatisfactory."
