Shift to decimalisation hits marketmakers' bottom line

Investors have welcomed the advent of decimalisation, but marketmakers and brokerage houses have been less pleased. Both claim that the switch to decimals has put the squeeze on trading revenues and on their profitability.

While securities firms are big and diverse enough to weather the storm, marketmakers are not in the same position and could see further consolidation.
