Schroders CEO sees ‘arms race’ among asset managers for private markets expertise

Peter Harrison says consolidation across the sector is being driven by need to offer clients access to unlisted assets

Schroders chief executive Peter Harrison has said asset managers are currently embroiled in an “arms race” to bolster their private markets capabilities amid a spate of recent M&A across the market.

Private markets have become one of the fastest growing areas for fund groups, with firms scrambling to add dedicated expertise across areas such as private equity, private credit and infrastructure.
