Standards are rising in a country where corruption was rife

Standards of corporate governance in Russia are improving rapidly, thanks to the combined efforts of investors, regulators and international agencies such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

William Browder, chief executive of Hermitage Capital, which has $700m (&euro777m) under management in Russian equities, says: 'It's improving, no question. It seems like the planets are lining up for minority shareholders right now.'
