Capital demands and calls for local staff could lead to contraction of transaction banking model

Regional regulation is increasing costs for international banks, leading some to question the size of their international operations.

John Owen, chief executive officer of international banking at RBS - the unit that contains functions such as transaction services, liquidity management and trade finance - told Financial News that "many of the local regulators are creating ever-higher barriers".
