The US federal government appears to have helped a Citigroup-led consortium move ahead with the largest US infrastructure privatisation after it rejected a call to impose tolls on an interstate highway in Pennsylvania.

The Federal Highway Commission rejected a proposal to impose a toll on Interstate 80.
