RBS chair tells BoE to scrap restrictions on dividends

Howard Davies said the 'banking sector is not investible' if it cannot pay out dividends to shareholders

Royal Bank of Scotland chair Howard Davies has called on the Bank of England to remove the restrictions on banks paying dividends by the autumn, to make the sector a more attractive option for investors.

“You could not pay dividends, however well capitalised you were. And that doesn’t work as an incentive structure because it doesn’t give you any incentive,” Davies said at the City & Financial webinar on 3 July.
