Property provides buffer for world's largest pension fund

The California Public Employees Retirement System (Calpers) managed to trim the fall in value of its funds to 5.9% in the year to June thanks to its 9% weighting in real estate.

Calpers now has assets worth $143bn (€146bn). Mark Anson, chief investment officer, said: "No pension fund worth more than $10bn scored a positive overall gain in assets this past fiscal year."
