Private equity firms have piled billions into UK wealth management, but are now facing a succession dilemma as a wave of founders and owners gear up for retirement.

Over the last three years, nearly £3bn has been pumped into the sector across 261 deals to roll up smaller wealth firms into so-called consolidators, according to a recent Citywire analysis.
