The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has committed to do what he can to "avoid another national lockdown", as the country battles to contain the spread of a second wave of the pandemic.

Johnson said in a televised press conference on 16 October: "While I can’t rule anything out, if at all possible I want to avoid another national lockdown with the damaging economic and social impact it will have."
