P2P firm Funding Circle joins government loan scheme

Banks have come under fire for attempting to prevent alternative lenders from accessing the scheme

Funding Circle, the UK’s largest peer-to-peer lender, has been authorised to lend out money under the government’s emergency loans scheme.

The fintech firm, which has distributed £6.2bn in loans to over 57,000 small businesses over the past decade, will pair taxpayer money channelled through the British Business Bank with institutional funds, to make loans to businesses affected by the coronavirus crisis.
