One in three UK firms will slash jobs as government ends furlough scheme in third quarter

The CIPD’s latest quarterly Labour Market Outlook predicts a ‘sombre autumn for jobs’ as a third of businesses set to shed staff by October

A third of UK businesses intend to cut jobs over July to September this year within the same timeframe as the government prepares to roll back its emergency Covid-19 stimulus package.

The 10 August survey from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development found that of the 2,000 firms it canvassed 33% are expecting to cut jobs in the third quarter, compared to 22% for the previous three months.
