Number of people on UK payrolls falls 650,000 in lockdown

The ONS noted a 16.7% drop in the weekly hours worked compared with the same period last year

The number of people in the UK on payrolls has fallen by 650,000 since the lockdown began, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics.

The job losses came between March and June 2020 at the height of the coronavirus-induced lockdown in the UK. The decline was sharpest at the start of the lockdown.
