Banks may benefit from significantly lower regulatory capital charges as a result of proposals released on Tuesday by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.

As predicted in Monday's Financial News, Basel suggested that bigger, internationally active banks be allowed to use their own credit scoring systems to assess how much capital they need as cushion against the risk of loss on loans, bonds and other types of credit exposure.
