MPs quiz chancellor over delay to Carney’s successor

Treasury Committee’s move follows report that government is mulling a delay to the appointment of Mark Carney’s successor

Sajid Javid, the UK chancellor, has been challenged by MPs to say when he plans to appoint a successor to Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of England, following a newspaper report it might be delayed.

Catherine McKinnell, a Labour MP who is the interim chair of the Treasury Committee, the body in charge of quizzing Javid’s department, wrote to the chancellor on September 18 demanding an update on the recruitment process and asking when the new governor’s term is due to begin.
