Merrill Lynch demonstrated the strength of its relationship with Eircom, the Irish telecoms group, after acting as lead adviser on the disposal of its mobile phone unit Eircell.

The UK's Vodafone, which was advised by UBS Warburg, bought the unit for €4.5bn ($4.12bn).
