McDermott, Will & Emery, the international law firm, has hired Ian Rose to strengthen its European competition practice, as increasing EU intervention into mergers and acquisitions activity is making a competition regulation a growing area.

Rose previously headed the European Commission and competition law department at Watson, Farley & Williams, the UK law firm that sold its Paris office to Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, the San Francisco-based law firm, in October 2002.
