London remained relatively calm today as the storm brews over the world stock markets, following Friday's plunge in tech share prices on Wall Street.

At the close of trading, the scenario was very much as expected. The UK's response to the events was a big fall and when the Wall Street displayed better results, the UK picture significantly improved.
