LME defeats Elliott Management in nickel crisis appeal

The investment firm sued the exchange for $456m in damages after a historic trading shutdown

Elliott Management has lost its appeal against the London Metal Exchange’s decision to cancel $12bn in nickel trades.

The LME’s move to void the trades on 8 March 2022 was a “once in a generation event” but necessary given the potential alternative, according to a court ruling published on 7 October.
