Listed companies should actively prepare for shareholder activism campaigns, as investors take a more aggressive approach against businesses, a senior M&A lawyer has warned.

“Incidences of activism are on the rise on a multi-year basis and part of it is market familiarity [with activism] ,” said Tom Matthews, a London-based M&A partner and head of the Emea activism practice at US law firm White & Case.
