JPMorgan has hired one of the best-known investment bankers in the City in a new role dealing with its key clients in Europe.

The US bank has taken on William Vereker, the former co-head of UBS’s investment bank who also served as business envoy to former UK prime minister Theresa May, as a “rainmaker” dealing with its biggest clients, according to a statement from the bank.
