Xavier Rolet, the London Stock Exchange chief executive, thought he stole the headlines this week with the news that the UK exchange is to merge with the Toronto Stock Exchange in a "merger of equals". Rolet, right, will take on the role of chief executive while Wayne Fox, TSE's chairman will become chairman of the merged group.

It has been a week of exchange merger mania as executives at four of the world's biggest stock exchanges revealed they were to become just two, while former Société Générale investment banking head Jean Pierre Mustier has re-emerged at  Italian bank UniCredit.
