Illinois scheme steps into commodities

The Teachers' Retirement System of Illinois has invested $600m (€405m) in commodities including oil and gas, making it the second multi-million-dollar commitment by a US public pension plan to such energy assets within a week.

The $41.7bn Illinois fund picked US bond fund manager Pimco, commodities specialist Gresham Investment Management and listed UK manager Schroders for three briefs of $200m each.
