HSBC has teamed up with IBM to explore how quantum computers can revolutionise bond trading, in what the two firms have hailed as a world-first for the technology.

The UK bank and US tech giant’s trial of “quantum-enabled algorithmic trading” delivered an up to 34% improvement in predicting the likelihood of a trade being filled at a quoted price, compared to “common classical techniques”, according to a statement.
