HSBC combines divisions, names new investment bank chief in leadership shake-up

The UK lender has combined some of its commercial banking business with its investment banking and markets units

HSBC has promoted a key banker to oversee a newly combined unit that will mean its investment bank ties up with some of its commercial banking functions in a major shake-up by chief executive Georges Elhedery.

Michael Roberts has been appointed CEO of corporate and institutional banking, which means he oversees both its investment bank and some of its commercial bank outside the UK and Hong Kong.
