Known for its soaring skyscrapers that house congregated financial firms, lower Manhattan has transformed since the attacks of 11 September 2001, in ways both visible and unseen.

Construction on the World Trade Centre began in the 1960s. Its large footprint replaced a neighbourhood called “Radio Row,” which was known for its stores selling radios, phonographs, televisions and electronic parts.
