Is the flow of high-flyers leaving the City to escape UK taxes turning into a flood? That is certainly the impression you get from recent press coverage.

Several top City figures are reported to be quitting or seriously considering it. Perhaps most striking was the news that Richard Gnodde, the vice-chair of Goldman Sachs, was off to Milan.
