Former president Jimmy Carter, the longest-living American president, who won the Nobel Peace Prize and spent his years after leaving office pursuing peace and charitable works, has died, the Carter Center said. He was 100.

The Carter Center said he died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday afternoon at his home in Plains, Ga. The former president had entered hospice care in February 2023.
