The former chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland, whose job at the UK lender was labelled one of the toughest in banking, has been named in the Queen’s 2020 New Year Honours list.

New Zealand-born McEwan has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the financial sector. The honour comes just months after he handed over the reins of RBS to Alison Rose.
