Since Financial News published its first rising stars lists two decades ago, the finance sector has increasingly acknowledged the need to improve diversity throughout its ranks.

The changes are reflected in FN’s rankings of talented young professionals, with women making up a growing proportion of the lists.

To mark International Women’s Day, we take a look at some recent female rising stars and what they have done since being recognised.

Our latest list of Rising Stars of European Finance will be published in April. Sign up to our lists and awards newsletter here to find out more.

Netanya Clixby, senior managing associate, Sidley Austin
FN revived its list of legal rising stars last year and Netanya Clixby was among the 25 to make the cut. Just a few months after being recognised she was promoted from managing associate to senior managing associate at Sidley Austin.

Beth Dunmall, investment distribution manager, Aviva
Beth Dunmall had recently been elevated to director in Redington’s investment consulting business when she was named a rising star in 2021. In May last year she made the switch to Aviva, where she is now an investment distribution manager.

Vera Fehling, CIO Western Europe, DWS
Vera Fehling has spent the bulk of her career at DWS, where she has steadily climbed the ranks. Her latest promotion, in December 2023, saw her become chief investment officer for Western Europe at the German asset manager. She made FN’s Rising Stars of Fund Management in 2022.

Laura Vincent, head of equity syndicate, Emea, Goldman Sachs
Less than a year after being named in the Rising Stars of Investment Banking 2023, Laura Vincent earned a promotion to lead Goldman’s European equity syndicate business following the departure of previous head Mark Maislish to Citadel. She previously led coverage of the Nordic region within the bank’s equity capital markets business.

Na Wei, global head of leveraged finance, Barclays
Na Wei was recognised as a Rising Star of Investment Banking in 2021 when she was head of consumer, retail and real estate leveraged finance in Europe. She has had back-to-back promotions in the last 12 months, becoming co-head of leveraged finance at the UK bank in April last year and then sole head last month.
