Hedge funds and banks use office design in the war for talent

The company creating offices for Wells Fargo, PJT Partners and Point72 finds clients craving a splash of colour — even in Mayfair

The funky artwork and coloured cushions in the Mayfair office of Point72 seem a little lively for an asset management firm, even taking into account the intimidating private art collection of its founder, hedge fund billionaire Steven Cohen. But for Mark Phillips, whose company helped to model the office, the look is a sign that finance firms are finally raising their game when it comes to office design.

Phillips runs K2 Space, which has been designing, fitting out and furnishing offices for clients in the UK and Europe since he set it up with co-founder Geoff Osman in 2004. As well as Point72, the company designed the Mayfair and Madrid offices of PJT, the advisory firm run by ex-Morgan Stanley rainmaker Paul Taubman, several offices for US banking giant Wells Fargo in London and Paris and the first UK office for American investment bank William Blair.
