FCA takes trading firm to court over WhatsApp promotions

The UK regulator said that the trader had been advising clients through WhatsApp and other social media platforms

The Financial Conduct Authority started proceedings in the High Court against 24HR Trading Academy and its director Mohammed Fuaath Haja Maideen Maricar, alleging the firm has been inducing customers to sign up for trading services over Whatsapp, without authorisation.

The case comes as financial regulators around the world hone in on the use of electronic messaging systems and the risks surrounding it.
