The Financial Conduct Authority has asked a pair of trading firms to improve their algorithmic controls as the City regulator steps up its scrutiny of the growing sector.

The FCA requested so-called attestations from two firms as part of a sector-wide probe of algorithmic trading controls, the watchdog told Financial News in response to a freedom of information request.
