EU Commission to investigate Lagardere's Vivendi bid

The European Commission has decided to carry out its own investigation into Lagardere's planned acquisition of Vivendi Universal Publishing, rejecting French demands for France's competition authorities to handle the case.

The Commission will take a final decision on the transaction, which involves the two largest book publishers in France, by December 3, 2003, a Commission statement said.
