The European Commission said its decision on Monday to impose fines totaling €124m ($117m) against eight Austrian banks for their role in a price-fixing cartel is a clear warning to other possible offenders.
Mario Monti, the competition commissioner said the decision along with other similar ones last year, "shows that the Commission is stepping up its enforcement against cartels".
