Kohlberg Kravis Roberts acquired Demag Holding, a portfolio of seven companies in the manufacturing and engineering industries based in Germany and Switzerland, from industrial conglomerate Siemens in 2002.

In December this year UK speciality chemicals company Johnson Matthey, which develops carbon emissions control systems and chemical catalysts, paid €214m ($307m) to acquire German technical ceramics producer Argillon.
