On 30 November, world leaders, regulators, policymakers and top ESG professionals will assemble at COP28 in a bid to tackle the climate crisis.

The stakes are higher than ever at this year's UN green summit, which has been mired in controversy as it is being hosted by the United Arab Emirates – one of the world's largest oil and gas producers.

The Dubai meeting, which runs from 30 November to 12 December, also follows one of the hottest summers in human history, marred by extreme weather events, including devastating wildfires in Canada, Greece and Hawaii, and deadly monsoons throughout Asia. Meanwhile, Storm Babet has blasted through the UK and Ireland, leading to widespread flooding and power outages since touching down on 18 October.

Scientists have warned that efforts by governments and companies to combat global warming continue to fall dangerously short, with MSCI forecasting that the world's listed companies are currently on track to heat the planet by 2.5°C, one degree higher than the target set out in the Paris Agreement.

Financial News will be covering everything you need to know in the run up to COP28. We will be asking some of the City's brightest minds for their thoughts on the key issues that need tackling, and what they hope to see come out of this year's summit.
