A third of English residents have been ordered to stay at home from tomorrow and over the festive period, as the UK struggles to stem the flow of a new and rapidly-spreading variant of coronavirus, the British prime minister warned today.

It is part of new, stricter Tier 4 virus restrictions which are set to come into effect for at least two weeks from 20 December and will apply to all London boroughs, as well as parts of South East and East England.
