CESR 'missed opportunity' with Mifid proposals

Exchanges and banks disagree over how to regulate bank-operated dark pools

Exchange giant NYSE Euronext and UBS, one of Europe’s largest trading firms, have expressed concern at proposed changes to the regulation of bank operated dark venues, as the European Commission seeks to overhaul share trading rules this year - although for opposite reasons.

The Committee of European Securities Regulators, which represents national regulators in Europe and advises the European Commission on new rules, yesterday called for reforms that would bring more transparency to Europe's fragmented equity marketplace.
